Nocturna
Nocturna, a London-based music events startup, sought a fresh logo and brand identity inspired by the vibrant aesthetic of 90s rave culture with a contemporary twist. The goal was to create a brand that incorporated illustration, a touch of surrealism, and a sense of nostalgia.

The Logo
I began by researching vintage 90s rave flyers, focusing on their symbolic and surreal imagery. This inspired the foundation for Nocturna’s logo design. The core illustration features a silhouetted head with mind-opening imagery, symbolic of that era, with beams behind it representing
club lights.
I selected a serif font that evokes 90s nostalgia while maintaining a contemporary feel. The vision for the logo was its versatility: it works in solid black or white and can be layered over textures and imagery, which I later explored in combination with the illustration style.
Visual identity
The colour palette was predominantly monochromatic, with a pop of indigo blue - a hue associated with creativity, wisdom, tranquillity, and spirituality. I selected textures with a lucid, trippy feel that layered well with the logo, imagery, and simple fonts.
For the photography, I chose abstract
black-and-white images featuring objects and people. These were paired with detailed yet abstract illustrations in indigo blue, creating a striking layered effect. The result was a brand identity that is both nostalgic and contemporary.
